Davon Cook is excited to be a facilitator for TPEN’s progressive group of producers. Davon is an agribusiness consultant who works with family-owned agriculture businesses to strengthen their operations. This typically includes developing governance and succession plans for both ownership and management; implementing strategic initiatives including compensation plans, employee development plans, and standard operating procedures; and professionalizing business policies.
Davon grew up near Lubbock, Texas, on a cotton farm (in which she is still involved as a shareholder) and involved in her family’s cotton gin. After starting her career in Chicago at ConAgra Foods and McKinsey & Company, Davon returned to Texas to co-manage the cotton gin business. During those 10 years, she developed a keen understanding of the ups and downs of managing any small business, particularly one shared with family members. And through her daily interaction with 100+ farmer customers, she gained insight into what makes producers successful. Davon understands the variety of skills needed to manage an ag operation, as well as the "softer" side of the equation in helping a family build a successful enterprise as a team.
In addition to working with producers, Davon has consulted in strategy development for corporate agribusiness clients and managed international ag development grants in Africa with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. This global perspective on the industry brings useful context to production ag operations.
Davon’s education is in agricultural economics from Texas A&M University and the University of Illinois, including an MBA. She has honed group facilitation skills over many years of leading workshops and meetings, and via ongoing training opportunities. She currently resides in Northern Colorado. Besides serving in numerous local organizations and boards, Davon is a lifelong 4-H and FFA supporter and currently serves on the Colorado FFA Foundation Board of Directors. She resides in northern Colorado with her husband and two children.
